Phil Quaife produced a superb fight back drive to take fifth place and a handful of precious championship points in race 2 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton.
Starting fifth, Quaife got boxed in at the start and dropped behind Charles Bateman, Duncan Tappy and Nigel Rice off the line to run eighth. He looked to have recovered seventh on lap 3 when he pulled a great move around the outside of Rice only for the Red Line Racing driver to tap him into a spin from where he rejoined tenth.
Quaife immediately passed Matthew Blyth for ninth and was back in eighth when Rice retired with a puncture caused by the contact. Phil then took Tony Gilham for seventh and was in the top five when Tim Harvey and Tappy retired.
In the dying stages a hard charging Quaife was right on the tail of Michael Caine, but couldn't force his way past despite a superb battle in the final two laps.
