Phil Quaife took a fine fourth place finish in race 1 of round 4 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton.
Starting fifth on the grid, Quaife drove a fine race and only missed out on a third podium finish of the year by sixth tenths of a second.
Having made a solid start off the line behind Tim Harvey and Tim Bridgman, Quaife was promoted to fourth on lap 1 when race leader Michael Caine spun at the chicane and dropped down the field.
Phil spent much of the race embroiled in a fierce battle with the chasing Charles Bateman and emerged unscathed late on when the Team Parker Racing driver made a late lunge at the chicane and ended his race in the tyres.
In the final laps Quaife closed right up to third place Harvey as he pushed for a podium, but also had to keep an eye in his mirrors as the recovering Caine fought back to make it a three car battle for third, the three drivers covered by a second at the chequered flag.
Quaife will start Sunday's second race from fifth on the grid.
