Phil Quaife endured a frustrating weekend at Rockingham in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, but fought back for fifth place in race 2 after gearbox failure left him pointless in race 1.
Race 1 on Sunday morning could hardly have been worse for the Jota Sport driver. Starting 7th on the grid, the 22-year-old was left stranded as the field pulled away due to a gearbox problem on his Porsche 911 Cup car.
Quaife entered the afternoon’s race 2 determined to register some championship points, and produced a strong performance to grab 5th. Again starting seventh, Phil passed Charles Bateman and Dean Smith on the opening lap.
A strong pursuit of the third/fourth place battle between championship leader Michael Caine and team mate Sam Hancock followed, but Quaife ultimately settled for fifth to maintain his third place overall in the drivers’ championship.
Full report to follow.
